Tilan Island is a famous island in the downstream Rokan Hilir. Compared to other islands, this island is better known to tourists. Tilan Island it self is located opposite the Village Rantau Bais, which is split by the Rokan river. Precisely this island is located in Tanah Putih District, Rokan Hilir Regency, Riau Province.




This island is not in the middle of the ocean, but in the middle of the Rokan River, which has calm waters, which keeps its beauty. Tilan Island is located about 21 km from Ujung Tanjung, Tanah Putih Subdistrict towards Rantau Bais Village, Rokan Hilir Regency. From Pekanbaru to this island we only cover a distance of about 148 km in 2 hours 18 minutes, if you take the toll road.

Tilan Island is located in the village of Rantau Bais. Rantau Bais Village itself is suitable for tourist attractions because there is not only Tilan Island but this village is still natural, beautiful, and has not been mixed with outside cultures. So that if we visit the village of Rantau bais, we will see houses, mosques, prayer rooms, traditional houses, what are the unique carvings of Malay culture.



According to the story of the old parents in this area, that the Tilan Fish that formed this island, so that this island is called Tilan Island which has an area of ​​about 500 hectares with the land contour is almost flat in all places. Another scientific name for this Tilan fish is Mastacembelus argus which has similar names in several areas such as Iwak Tilan in South Sumatra, or Tilan Merah in Jambi or Slili Fish, Sili Fish or Fire Sili Fish or Fire Eel. In Majalengka, this fish is rare and reaches the size of an adult's calf.



Throughout the development of history, Tilan Island has not been inhabited by the community but is inhabited by animals such as buffalo, cows, monkeys, storks, etc. Because it is cheap, we, the people of Rantau Bais, prefer to live on the other side of the Tilan Island. But this is not a factor in the number of tourists who come. Tilan Island is very often visited by tourists from year to year every holiday, the people here always hold festivals whether it's a cross race, canoe racing, fishing, or others, on Tilan Island inviting many tourists to come. But it is very unfortunate that this year's holiday will hold a Festival because the Indonesian people are being hit by Covid-19. But the youth in my area did not just secretly agree to hold a festival every Saturday and Sunday which opened in early November. Visitors who come must also have health protocols. By holding this festival, we hope that Tilan Island will remain the best island in Rokan Hilir, or an island that is not forgotten by the community so that it is often visited by tourists.
